Mulch FAQ
Are the dyed mulches safe for plants & animals?
YES! The colorants used to make our mulches are specially formulated (food grade dye) to be non toxic to plants & animals.
Does the dye wash off?
Our dye is specially engineered to create an incredible bond with wood fiber. Once the colorant dries, it’s on the mulch permanently. You will not experience any wash-off or leaching. However, all dyed mulches require 6-24 hours of sun drying time before they will become permanent. If the mulch has not been allowed the adequate time to dry (due to rain or watering) some color may wash.
Does the dye stain?
The dye WILL stain concrete driveways, we advise a tarp to be placed prior to dropping material.
Will termites interact with mulch?
Termites can interact with various forms of cellulose wood fiber, regardless of their origin. However, mulch is generally less appealing to termites due to its fine texture. Termites typically prefer wood with a more substantial texture. To reduce the risk of termite problems, homeowners should consider preventative measures. Maintain a gap of at least six inches between the mulch and the exterior walls of the home. Applying a termiticide in this area annually can also help deter termites.
How and when to apply mulch:
Spring/summer is the ideal season to apply mulch when soil temperatures are warmer. Remove old mulch before reapplying. Lay a 2-4″ layer of finely processed mulch around annuals and perennials. Avoid mulching directly around stems of plants and trunks of trees. Spread evenly and avoid compacting or matting down. Rake at 4-6 month intervals to rejuvenate beds and allow aeration to plant roots.
